Best Season:

The best season for a Mt. Mera Peak Climbing is generally in the autumn months of September to November. During this time, the weather is typically clear and stable, with lower chances of rainfall and snowfall, which makes for better climbing conditions.

 

Permit & Regulations:

  1. Makalu Barun National Park Permit: This permit is required for all visitors to the Makalu Barun National Park, which includes Mt. Mera, and costs around USD 30 per person. It can be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board or from the Nepal Immigration Office in Kathmandu.
  2. Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) Climbing Permit: This permit is also required for all mountaineering expeditions in Nepal, including Mt. Mera. The fee for the NMA climbing permit for Mt. Mera is based on the number of climbers in the group and ranges from USD 250 for a solo climber to USD 125 per person for a group of 7 climbers or more.

Day 1 – Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m.):

This is the first day of your trip, where you will arrive in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal. You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to your hotel. Depending on the time of your arrival, you can spend the day exploring the city or relaxing at your hotel to recover from your journey.

Day 2 – Preparation day in Kathmandu:

This is a preparation day for your trek to Mera Peak. You will have a pre-trek briefing, where you will meet your guide and other members of the team. You will go through the final gear check to make sure you have all the necessary equipment for the trek. This is also a good time to ask any questions you may have about the trek.

Day 3 – Fly to Lukla (2800m.) and Trek to Chhutenga (3450m.):

On this day, you will take a scenic flight to Lukla, a small town in the Himalayas. The flight itself is an experience, as you will fly over the stunning Himalayan mountains. From there, you will start your trek to Chhutenga, a small village located at 3450m. The trail passes through beautiful forests, streams, and waterfalls.

Day 4 – Trek to Khark Tang (3750m.):

Today, you will continue your trek to Khark Tang, a picturesque village surrounded by snow-capped mountains and beautiful landscapes. You will also pass through several beautiful valleys and cross high passes. The trail is challenging but rewarding, with breathtaking views at every turn.

Day 5 – Trek to Chhetra Thu (4350m.):

On this day, you will trek to Chhetra Thu, a remote village located at an altitude of 4350m. You will enjoy stunning views of the Himalayas along the way, and the trail passes through beautiful forests and streams.

Day 6 – Trek to Khothey (3600m.):

You will continue your trek to Khothey, a small village located at an altitude of 3600m. You will cross several high passes and beautiful valleys along the way. The trail is challenging, but the views of the mountains make it worth the effort.

Day 7 – Trek to Tagnak (4350m.):

On this day, you will trek to Tagnak, a beautiful village located at an altitude of 4350m. The trail passes through beautiful valleys and forests, and you will see stunning views of the Himalayas. This is another challenging day, as you will be gaining a lot of elevation, but the beautiful surroundings make it worth it.

Day 8 – Rest day in Tagnak (4350m.):

This is a rest day for acclimatization in Tagnak. Acclimatization is essential when trekking at high altitude, as it helps your body adjust to the lower oxygen levels. You will take short hikes around the village and explore the surrounding area to keep your body active.

Day 9 – Trek to Khare (4900m.):

On this day, you will trek to Khare, a small village located at an altitude of 4900m. The trail is challenging, but the views of the Himalayas are spectacular. You will also pass through several beautiful valleys and cross high passes along the way.

Day 10 – Trek to Mera Peak Base Camp (5350m.):

On this day, you will continue trekking towards Mera Peak Base Camp, located at an altitude of 5350m. The trail offers spectacular views of the mountains, and you’ll get to see the Hinku Valley, Mera La Pass, and Charpati Himal. Once you reach the base camp, you’ll get your first glimpse of Mera Peak.

Day 11 – High Camp (5750m.):

You will continue your ascent to Mera Peak and trek to High Camp, located at an altitude of 5750m. This will be your last stop before the summit push. The trek is challenging and steep, and you’ll need to cross a glacier before reaching the high camp.

Day 12 – Summit (6654m.) and back to Khare:

This is the most challenging day of the trek, as you will summit Mera Peak, one of the highest trekking peaks in Nepal, at an altitude of 6654m. You’ll start early in the morning and trek to the summit. The ascent is steep and challenging, and you’ll need to cross a glacier before reaching the summit. Once you reach the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. You’ll then descend back to High Camp and then to Khare.

Day 13 – Trek to Khothey:

You will trek back to Khothey, retracing your steps from earlier in the trek. The trail is mostly downhill, and you’ll pass through beautiful valleys and forests. You’ll spend the night at a teahouse in Khothey.

Day 14 – Trek to Chhetra La:

On this day, you will continue your descent and trek to Chhetra La, a beautiful village located at an altitude of 4600m. The trail offers stunning views of the Himalayas, and you’ll pass through several villages along the way. You’ll spend the night at a teahouse in Chhetra La.

Day 15 – Trek to Lukla:

On this day, you will trek back to Lukla, where you’ll spend the night before your flight back to Kathmandu. The trail is mostly downhill, and you’ll pass through several villages and forests. You’ll spend the night at a teahouse in Lukla.

Day 16 – Fly to Kathmandu:

You will take a scenic flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. You can spend the rest of the day exploring the city or relaxing at your hotel.

Day 17 – Kathmandu:

This day will be spent in Kathmandu, where you can explore the city and visit some of its famous landmarks such as Swayambhunath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, and Durbar Square. You can also do some last-minute shopping or relax in your hotel.

Day 18 – Departure for Home:

This is the last day of your trip. You will be transferred to the airport for your flight back home.
