Best Season:

The best time to trek in Mustang is during the spring season, from March to May, and during the autumn season, from September to November. These months offer clear skies, mild temperatures, and good trekking conditions.

  1. Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP)
  2. Mustang Restricted Area Permit

Regulations:

  1. The Mustang Restricted Area Permit can be obtained through a registered trekking agency in Nepal, and a minimum of two trekkers is required.
  2. The trek must be accompanied by a licensed guide.
  3. The trek must follow the designated route and camping is required throughout the trek.
  4. Trekkers are not allowed to deviate from the designated route, and must obtain permission from the authorities to visit any villages or areas outside the designated route.
  5. Trekkers must respect local customs and traditions, and avoid causing damage to the natural environment.
  6. The consumption of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited.

  • Day 4 : Chele (3050 m) – Syangmochen (3800 m) 7-8 hrs
  • Day 5 : Syangmochen (3800 m) – Tsarang (3560 m) 7 hrs
  • Day 6: Tsarang (3560 m) – Lo Manthang (3800 m) 4-5 hrs

Day 1: Travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara either by flight or by road, which takes approximately 6-7 hours.

This is a day of travel where you will make your way from the bustling city of Kathmandu to the peaceful city of Pokhara. You can choose to travel by road or by flight. The road trip takes about 6-7 hours and takes you through some stunning landscapes of the country, including winding roads through the hills and lush green valleys. If you take a flight, it will only take you about 25-30 minutes, and you will be able to see the stunning view of the mountains from above. Once you arrive in Pokhara, you can relax, explore the city, and prepare for your trek.

Day 2: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2743 m) and then trek to Kagbeni (2810 m) for 3 hours. Option to make a round trip day trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath (3720 m) and back, taking about 6 hours.

On day two, you will take a flight from Pokhara to Jomsom, which is located at an altitude of 2743 meters. The flight itself is an incredible experience as you will fly through the Kali Gandaki Gorge, which is the deepest gorge in the world. After reaching Jomsom, you will begin your trek to Kagbeni, which is situated at an altitude of 2810 meters. The trek takes about 3 hours and will take you through the Kali Gandaki Riverbed. Once you reach Kagbeni, you can explore the village and take some rest. You also have the option to make a round trip day trek from Kagbeni to Muktinath, which is located at an altitude of 3720 meters. This trek takes about 6 hours and takes you through some beautiful landscapes and a sacred temple.

Day 3: Trek from Kagbeni (2810 m) to Chele (3050 m) for 6 hours.

On day three, you will start your trek from Kagbeni to Chele, which is situated at an altitude of 3050 meters. This trek takes about 6 hours and will take you through the Kali Gandaki Valley. The trek will be challenging as you will encounter steep climbs and descents, but the stunning views of the landscapes and snow-capped mountains will make it worth the effort.

Day 4: Continue trekking from Chele (3050 m) to Syangmochen (3800 m) for 7-8 hours.

On day four, you will continue your trek from Chele to Syangmochen, which is situated at an altitude of 3800 meters. This trek takes approximately 7-8 hours and takes you through some rugged terrain, rocky canyons, and stunning landscapes. You will also cross some high mountain passes, including the Taklam La Pass, which is situated at an altitude of 3624 meters.

Day 5: Trek from Syangmochen (3800 m) to Tsarang (3560 m) for 7 hours.

On day five, you will trek from Syangmochen to Tsarang, which is located at an altitude of 3560 meters. This trek takes approximately 7 hours and takes you through some stunning landscapes of the Upper Mustang region. You will also pass through several villages and monasteries along the way, giving you an insight into the local culture and traditions.

Day 6: Trek from Tsarang (3560 m) to Lo Manthang (3800 m) for 4-5 hours.

Today’s trek is relatively short and will take you to the destination of the entire trip, Lo Manthang, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Lo. The trail takes you through a beautiful landscape with stunning views of Nilgiri, Tilicho, and Bhrikuti peaks. Along the way, you’ll pass through Lo Gekar monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Nepal.

Day 7: Rest day at Lo Manthang (3800 m) to explore the local heritage sites.

Today is a rest day, giving you ample time to explore the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang, which has remained untouched for centuries. You can explore the narrow alleyways, visit monasteries, palaces, and ancient temples. You can also interact with the locals and learn about their way of life.

Day 8: Take a day hike to Nyiphu and Garphu monasteries/caves, as well as the villages in the north of Lo Manthang.

Today’s trek takes you to the north of Lo Manthang, where you’ll visit Nyiphu and Garphu monasteries, which are known for their intricate murals and rock paintings. You’ll also visit several small villages and interact with the locals, learning about their culture and way of life.

Day 9: Trek from Lo Manthang (3800 m) to Dhakmar (3820 m) via Ghar Gumba (Loghekar Monastery) for 6 hours.

Day 10: Trek from Dhakmar (3820 m) to Ghiling (3570 m) for 6 hours.

Ghiling is a small village with traditional houses and farmlands, and you can interact with the locals and learn about their way of life.

Day 11: Trek from Ghiling (3570 m) to Samar (3550 m) for 6 hours.

Today’s trek takes you back to the village of Samar, where you’ll spend the night. The trail takes you through beautiful landscapes and small villages. Along the way, you’ll cross several passes and see stunning views of the mountains. Samar is a small village with traditional houses and farmlands, and you can interact with the locals and learn about their way of life.

Day 12: Trek from Samar (3550 m) back to Kagbeni (2810 m) for 6-7 hours.

Today’s trek takes you back to Kagbeni, the starting point of your Upper Mustang Trek. The trail takes you through beautiful landscapes and small villages. You’ll also cross several passes and see stunning views of the mountains. You’ll reach Kagbeni by late afternoon, and you can explore the village and interact with the locals.

Day 13: Trek from Kagbeni (2810 m) to Jomsom (2750 m) for 3 hours. This is the last day of trekking, and you will walk back to Jomsom, where you can rest and relax after the long journey.

Day 14: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara and then from Pokhara back to Kathmandu, concluding your trek. You will take a morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, which takes about 20 minutes. In Pokhara, you can spend some time sightseeing and exploring the city before taking an afternoon flight back to Kathmandu. Once you arrive in Kathmandu, your trek will officially come to an end.
