Gosaikunda Lake Trek Overview

Gosakinuda is an oligrotrophic lake situated in the Langtang National Park of Nepal. Gosaikunda, associated with other lakes in the region, makes the entire area a perfect trekking destination not only for trekkers but also for Hindu pilgrims from all around the world. This religious site is known to be the abode of Hindu deities Shiva and Gauri and is full of internal as well as external tourists, flocking to it every year. It is believed that a dip in the holy waters of Gosaikunda washes away the sins.

Situated in the raw and wild Langtang region of Nepal, the Gosakiunda Lake Trekking trail has emerged as a popular trekking destination for people wishing to avoid areas jammed with people. The trekking trails pass through varied landscapes, ranging from lush green forests to arid drylands. While the major attraction of this trek is the Gosaikunda and its associated lakes at the altitude of 4380m, the mountain views along the path are worth picturing too. Best Season:

The best time to trek in the Langtang region is during the spring season, from March to May, or during the autumn season, from September to November. These months offer clear skies and mild temperatures, making for ideal trekking conditions.

Day to Day Itinerary

The first day of the trek marks your arrival in the bustling city of Kathmandu. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by your tour guide, who will transfer you to your hotel. The guide will provide you with all the necessary information about the trek, including a briefing on the itinerary, the dos and don’ts, and the gear you will need for the trek. You will have the rest of the day to rest and relax at the hotel or explore the city at your leisure. In the evening, you will have a welcome dinner that includes a cultural program to introduce you to the rich culture of Nepal.

After breakfast, you will leave Kathmandu and drive to Dhunche, which is the starting point of the trek. The journey takes about 6.5 hours, and you will pass through several small towns and villages along the way. You will have a chance to see the scenic beauty of the countryside, with terraced fields, lush forests, and snow-capped mountains in the distance. Upon arrival in Dhunche, you will check into your teahouse and rest for the night.

On the third day, you will begin your trek to Thulo Syabru village. The trail climbs uphill, passing through dense forests and small settlements. You will encounter several suspension bridges and streams along the way, which add to the charm of the trek. Thulo Syabru village is located at an altitude of 2,210 meters and offers stunning views of the Langtang mountain range. You will stay overnight in a teahouse and prepare for the next day’s trek.

The fourth day of the trek takes you to Sing Gompa, which is also known as Chandanbari. The trek is moderately challenging and takes about 5-6 hours to complete. You will pass through dense forests of rhododendron, oak, and bamboo, which are home to several species of birds and animals. Sing Gompa is a popular destination for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims, as it is home to several monasteries and temples. You will stay overnight in a teahouse and enjoy the serene surroundings.

On the fifth day, you will trek to Lauribinayak, which is located at an altitude of 3,910 meters. The trail is steep and challenging, and you will need to acclimatize yourself to the altitude. Along the way, you will pass through several small settlements and yak pastures, and the views of the surrounding mountains are breathtaking. You will stay overnight in a teahouse and prepare for the next day’s trek.

The sixth day of the trek takes you to Gosainkunda Lake, which is one of the holiest lakes in Nepal. The trek is challenging, and the trail is steep and rocky. You will pass through several smaller lakes and cross several streams, and the views of the surrounding mountains are stunning. Gosainkunda Lake is believed to have been created by Lord Shiva, and it is a popular destination for Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. You will stay overnight in a teahouse near the lake and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

On the seventh day of the trek, you will begin early in the morning as you will need to cross the Gosainkunda Pass (also known as Lauribina Pass) which is at an altitude of 4,610 meters. The pass offers stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas, and you will be able to see the Annapurna range and Manaslu on clear days. The trek to Mera Kharka takes about 7 hours and is a bit challenging due to the steep ascent and descent. You will reach Mera Kharka by the evening and spend the night there.

After a well-deserved rest in Mera Kharka, you will trek to Kutumsang on the eighth day of the trek. The trek is relatively easier compared to the previous day and takes about 5-6 hours to complete. Kutumsang is a beautiful village situated at an altitude of 2,470 meters and is inhabited by the Tamang community. You can explore the village and interact with the locals, getting to know more about their culture and way of life.

On the ninth day, you will trek to Chisapani, which takes about 5-6 hours to reach. Chisapani is a small village located at an altitude of 2,165 meters and offers stunning views of the Langtang range and the Helambu valley. The trek from Kutumsang to Chisapani is relatively easy, with a few steep ascents and descents. You will spend the night in Chisapani, enjoying the beautiful views of the Himalayas.

On the final day of the trek, you will trek to Sundarijal, which takes about 3-4 hours to complete. Sundarijal is a beautiful village situated at an altitude of 1,460 meters and is known for its waterfalls and the Shivapuri National Park. You will then drive back to Kathmandu, which takes about an hour. Upon reaching Kathmandu, you will check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure.

On the final day of your trip, you will depart from Kathmandu and head back home, marking the end of your Tamang Heritage Trek. You can spend some time shopping for souvenirs and gifts for your loved ones before leaving for the airport. The memories and experiences from your trek will stay with you for a lifetime, and you will leave Nepal with a newfound appreciation for its natural beauty and cultural diversity.
