Overview

Mount Makalu at the altitude of 8485 meters is the fifth highest mountain in the world and is situated in the Mahalangur Himalayan range. This isolated peak, with its four-sided pyramid, has established itself as a destination for mountaineers. The expedition to the top of Mount Makalu is, without doubt, an experience that requires careful planning and expert level guidance to complete. Come experience the thrill and adventure of Mt. Makalu was first climbed on 1955 and it still remains an exciting peak to ascend to this day. This impressive mass of red granite has four sharp ridges, making it all the more spectacular. The Mt. Makalu Expedition is considered a tough one among the eight-thousanders and also falls on the list of one of the most difficult mountains in the world to climb. Hence, needless to state, a perfect physique, strong mindset, and prior climbing experience are mandatory to carry out this experience.  The major highlight of the trek is the top of the summit, which offers spectacular views of the encompassing Himalayas all around.

The Makalu is climbed from its west face and consists of four parts. Aesthetically, speaking, mountain Makalu is difficult, yet highly adventurous to the summit. Best Season:

The best time for Makalu expeditions is during the spring season (March to May) and the autumn season (September to November). The weather during these seasons is generally stable, with clear skies and good visibility.

 

Permits & Regulations:

  1. Makalu Barun National Park Permit: The Makalu Barun National Park is the main entry point for Makalu expeditions. All climbers are required to obtain a permit from the national park office in Kathmandu or at the Makalu Barun National Park entry gate in Num, which is located about 6-7 hours drive from Kathmandu.
  2. Makalu Expedition Permit: Climbers must also obtain a permit from the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation in Kathmandu to climb Makalu. This permit is usually issued through a registered trekking agency.
  3. Liaison Officer: All foreign climbers are required to hire a liaison officer from the Nepalese government. The liaison officer’s job is to monitor the expedition and ensure that climbers follow all the regulations.

Day 01 – Arrival at Kathmandu ( holy city)-1350 m and transfer to Hotel

Day 02 – Kathmandu Valley (holy land) Sightseeing, overnight at hotel

Day 03 – Document and briefing, overnight at hotel

Day 04 – Fly to Tumlingtar, overnight at hotel

Day 05 – Trek from Tumlingtar to Khadbari

Day 06 – Trek from Khadbari to Bhotebas 1720m.

Day 07 –  Trek from Bhotebas to Num 2200 m

Day 08 – Trek from Num to Sedua

Day 09 – Trek from Sedua to Tashigaon 2200m

Day 10 – Trek from Tashigaon to Kauma. Below Shipton pass. 2800 m

Day 11 – Trek from Cross shipton and Mumbuk Passes

Day 12 – Trek to Kharka 2646m

Day 13 –  Trek from Kharka to Shersung 4614m

Day 14 – Trek from Shersung to Makalu Base camp 5250m

Day 15 – Extra day for weather in Base Camp

Day 01 – Arrival at Kathmandu ( holy city)-1350 m and transfer to Hotel
Arrive in Tribhuwan International Airport Kathmandu-1350 m and transfer to Hotel Meet our Representative in Airport and he will take you to the Hotel by Private vehicle. We will explain all about our coming programs.

Day 02 – Kathmandu Valley (holy land) Sightseeing, overnight at hotel
Guided sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. Visit Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Durbar Square and Swoyambhunath Temple- all carry historical, cultural, architectural and religious value and all are listed to world heritage Site. (BB Plan)

Day 03 – Document and briefing, overnight at hotel
Document preparation day for expedition and briefing in Ministry of tourism about the expedition in Mt.Makalu.

Day 04 – Fly to Tumlingtar, overnight at hotel
Fly to Tumlingtar. Tumlingtar a village situated at the height of almost 400 m above sea level and our starting point of Trekking. It is better to stay there exploring around the area and taking photos. Our guide will take to the best available hotel of the area.

Day 05 – Trek from Tumlingtar to Khadbari
Tumlingtar to Khadbari Khadbari a place situated at the height of 1400 m and a village with multi-ethnic group of people.

Day 06 – Trek from Khadbari to Bhotebas 1720m.
Khadbari to Bhotebas 1720m. It is our sixth trekking day and has to walk about 5 hours. Way is not difficult and we have to walk through village, river jungle and other natural factors. We trek up to Bhotebas and it is situated at the height of 1720 m.

Day 07 –  Trek from Bhotebas to Num 2200 m
Bhotebas to Num 2200 m Wake up early in the morning be fresh and check your belongings. Start trekking and have breakfast on the way or walk after the breakfast. Our guide will tell you all about the areas.

Day 08 – Trek from Num to Sedua
It is our eighth day of trekking & expedition trip. Our guide will wake you up in the morning and ask whether you to start your trip after breakfast there or on the way. Choose your option.

Day 09 – Trek from Sedua to Tashigaon 2200m
Tashigaon is situated at the height of 2200m we today have to walk through Tashigaon with the romantic scene of mountain, jungle, rivers and other natural elements. We will be meeting specially Sherpa and Gurung people, their life style and all.

Day 10 – Trek from Tashigaon to Kauma. Below Shipton pass. 2800 m
We are following another wonderful day with scenic and panoramic view. It is the day to arrive at Kauma by the middle of the day. We will stay there today to acclimatize to pass Shipton pass situated at the height of 4126 m tomorrow.

Day 11 – Trek from Cross shipton and Mumbuk Passes
Kauma to Cross Shipton Pass (4150m). Mumbuk 3500m Kauma to Cross Shipton Pass (4150m). Mumbuk (3500m) we will be walking through Mumbuk one of the difficult places of the area to cross Shipton Pass at the height of 4150 m. We do breakfast at Kauma today and will walk by 7:00 AM in the morning and send our night after the Pass.

Day 12 – Trek to Kharka 2646m
Trek to Kharka 2646m It is the place looking different because there small bushes at the lap of the mountains and the hills. Rare houses are seen in this area and people found on the way are very nice and friendly.

Day 13 –  Trek from Kharka to Shersung 4614m
Kharka to Shersung (4614m) It is about 5-6 hours of walking day from Kharka to Shersung stepping on an altitude of 4614m. Have breakfast at Kharka or on the way after walking some minutes. Rest of the things will be explained by our guide who is very well-known to the area and with people around.

Day 14 – Trek from Shersung to Makalu Base camp 5250m
Sherson to Makalu Base camp 5250 m It is our important day because we are going to see Makalu Base Camp which is the focus point of the trip. Trekking to this is quite different than other areas because so less trekker only goes to here and trekkers to this area will be more respected than to the others. Makalu Base camp is at the height of 4810 m

Day 15 – Extra day for weather in Base Camp
Extra day for weather. Guarantee of the good weather may not be taken in the mountainous region. So, take an extra day in case of bad weather.

Day 16-46 – climbing period
Duration: 30 days and all these days will be used hiking up and coming down to the base camp in order to be fit physically for the expedition. Height: 8463m. From the Base Camp, for the lodges we will be using high quality ISO standard tented camp with high security set by our well experienced climbing Sherpas. Adventure Zone Trekking & Expeditions management team of the Mt. Makalu expedition team is very much conscious of its expedition clients to know all about their physical condition and high altitude sickness. In case of any doubt regarding physical inability caused by high altitude sickness, the team will take action to bring the people from the high camp to second camp or to the base camp and after he/she gets fit the management team will take him or her up again. All these 30 days will be using in such activities and because of which it will be less difficult to summit the top. Spare days that are shown in the itinerary may not be enough or may be more also but whatever is the case our itinerary is customizable.

Day 47 – Retrace the trail to lower Kharka
Retrace the trail to lower Kharka We are, today, and heading back to lower kharka. Explanation of this place is given in the eleventh day of the itinerary.

Day 48 – Retrace the trail to high kharka
Retrace the trail to high kharka

Day 49 – High Kharka to Mumbuk
High Kharka to Mumbuk We are walking about 6 hours today to arrive high kharka after breakfast at lower kharka and lunch on the way back. Our guide is very clever in managing time frame so he will suggest how much time we should take in exploring around while walking every day.

Day 50 – Re Cross the pass. Descend to Tashi gaon
Re Cross the pass. Descend to Tashi gaon. By Crossing Shipton Pass (4150m) through Mumbuk (3500m), we, today, arrive at Tashi gaon.

Day 51 – Tashi Gaon to Bhotebas.
Tashi Gaon to Bhotebas our walking days are becoming longer while coming down than to go up. We will arrive at Bhotebas today.

Day 52 – Bhotebas to Khadbari
Bhotebas to Khadbari its, as explained before, is a beautiful village of the area and multi tribal people are living here in a good atmosphere with a friendly situation. People are helpful, innocent and laborious.

Day 53 – Khadbari to Tumlingtar
Khadbari to Tumlingtar Tumlingtar is again a village and place to fly back to Kathmandu.

Day 54 – Fly to Kathmandu
Fly to Kathmandu Transfer to hotel after you are in Katmandu domestic Airport.

Day 55 – In Kathmandu.
Free day here for the rest to get back your physical condition that tired in expedition and trekking. Tonight let’s go for Nepali typical dinner with Nepali culture show to celebrate the succession

Day 56 – Transfer to airport to depart from Kathmandu to your own destination.
